Doris “Tweety” Gurule of Española

Doris “Tweety” Gurule, 62, a resident of Española, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gurule; father, Jose E. Duran Jr.; brother, Jason Duran; nephews, Gary Duran Jr. and Michael Martinez Jr. and brother-in-law, Tino Baca Sr.

Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt who enjoyed spending quality time with her family. Doris retired in 2016 from the State of NM office of Superintendent of Insurance in Santa Fe.  She enjoyed cooking for her family, camping, watching movies and listening to music. Doris had a heart of gold; she was always caring for someone in need. She was a beautiful soul that will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Josette Gurule and companion, Manuel Gonzales; mother, Maria E. Duran; grandchildren, Jerrae Vidal, Rey Vidal and Geno Gurule Gonzales; siblings, Sandra Martinez and husband, Michael, JoAnne Baca, Nancy Garcia, Gary Duran and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends whom she loved dearly.

Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a devotional service to follow at 6:30 p.m. 

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Victory Faith Church in Española.

The family of Doris “Tweety” Gurule has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.

 


Joshua B. Garcia

Joshua B. Garcia, 41, passed from this Earth unexpectedly on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Joshua was preceded in death by his brother, Jacob; paternal grandparents, Walter and Helen Garcia; and maternal grandparents, Bartolo and Helen Valdez.

Joshua was well known in the community along with his brother as excellent softball players two decades ago, and now striving to play one more season. Even with ailing knees, Joshua would spend a large amount of time with friends playing ball and supervising officials at the Española and White Rock fields. Joshua’s ability and desire to help his family and friends was tremendous. The help and support he gave his parents was enormous and his family now struggles during his loss.

Joshua is survived by his sons, Joshua, Daylon and Isaiah; parents, Bob and Lou Garcia; girlfriend, Jaclyn Valdez; former wife, Nina Vigil, aunts, uncles and cousins so dear to him.

Public visitation will begin on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake service to follow at 7:00 p.m. A second wake service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory.
