U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) are introducing legislation to authorize a one-time $89 million infusion of funds into the Navajo Electrification Demonstration Program (NEDP) to empower the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) to implement projects that bring electric power to Navajo households.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  After historic snowstorms and flooding in local Navajo communities that occurred in February, U.S. Senators Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), along with U.S. Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján, and U.S. Representatives Deb Haaland and Xochitl Torres-Small, lauded the decision to grant the request for a Major Disaster Declaration for the Navajo Nation.

Udall, Heinrich, Luján Announce $220 Million In Contract Opportunities For Uranium Mine Cleanup On Navajo Nation

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Representative Ben Ray Luján announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to award multiple contracts worth an estimated $220 million over a five-year period to address the legacy of uranium contamination from abandoned mines in the Navajo Nation area.
