Astronomer Rick Wallace will discuss the astronomy of solstices as well as folklore, festivals and activities that are dedicated to celebrating this time of year. LOS ALAMOS, NM – Learn about the brightest explosions in our universe this Friday, Dec. 14 at the Los Alamos Nature Center’s planetarium with Dr. Nicole Lloyd-Ronning. Lloyd-Ronning will tell the audience all about the incredible phenomena that is gamma-ray bursts, which occur when a massive star dies or when two old, dense stars smash into each other. The talk begins at 7 p.m.

LOS ALAMOS, NM – Learn about our local star at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at the Los Alamos Nature Center’s planetarium at a presentation from Joyce Guzik called Inside the Sun. Guzik’s presentation will explore why the sun shines, the possible fate of the sun and earth and much more. She guarantees that the audience will learn something about the sun that they didn’t know before.

LOS ALAMOS, NM – Join Paul Arendt and Rick Wallace for a discussion of the history of Quasars at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, at the Los Alamos Nature Center. Arendt and Wallace will take the audience through the history of quasars since their discovery in the 1950s and will also examine active galactic nuclei and black holes at this talk.
LOS ALAMOS, NM – Explore the world of black holes this Friday and Saturday at the Los Alamos Nature Center. At 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. Aycin Aykutalp will discuss her research on possible pathways for the formation of massive seed black holes in the early universe and on Saturday, Oct. 27 the nature center will show the full-dome film “Black Holes” in the planetarium at 2 p.m.
