Udall, Murphy Introduce Bill To Help Beginning Farmers Pay Student Loan Debt

Bill would support future of rural America by giving incentives to young people to enter and stay in agriculture.

WASHINGTON – Today, as the U.S. Congress begins debate on the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, U.S. Senators Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) reintroduced the Student Loan Forgiveness for Farmers and Ranchers Act, to create a loan forgiveness program for beginning farmers and ranchers, as well as other groups such as women, veterans, and minority farmers.

In letter to USDA, Lawmakers Urge Farm Service Agency To Support Rio Arriba County Farmers and Ranchers By Reconsidering Calculation For Financial Assistance

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Martin Heinrich (D-NM), and Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) have sent a letter to the New Mexico State Farm Service Agency’s office about the proposed 2018 County Expected Yield/T-Yield for Rio Arriba County. The lawmakers expressed concern that the process to determine the T-Yield value is inconsistent with previous years and would have a negative impact on farmers and ranchers.
