SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement Friday after the New Mexico Senate overwhelmingly approved House Bill 7, bipartisan legislation that will create Centers of Excellence at four institutions of higher learning, transforming our universities into genuine economic engines that will grow industries and create jobs across the state. The House overwhelmingly approved the bipartisan legislation March 1.

Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement today after the New Mexico House overwhelmingly, and with bipartisan support, approved a pair of important bills, one creating Centers of Excellence at New Mexico institutions of higher education, driving innovation in economic growth sectors and building closer links between research and industry; and the other expanding hemp production in New Mexico, first-of-its-kind legislation creating an important framework to encourage businesses and innovation.
House Democrats champion education and innovation
Santa Fe, N.M. – On Friday, a bill to create four Higher Education Centers of Excellence throughout the state passed the House of Representatives. House Bill 7, sponsored by Rep. Micaela Lara Cadena (D-Mesilla) and Rep. Tomás Salazar (D-Las Vegas), would guide the scope of activity and goals for each of the proposed centers.
