Tierra Amarilla, NM – On Monday, First Judicial District Attorney Marco Serna announced that a Rio Arriba judge agreed with his office’s request to keep Brittany Garcia on a no bond hold for her alleged role as the driver in the horrific murder of Cameron Martinez.

Savannah Martinez pleaded guilty Friday morning before a courtroom packed with the surviving victims and the family members of the young man who was killed. She entered a plea to a 3rd degree felony Tampering with Evidence charge, admitting her involvement in getting rid of spent shell casings from the shooting.

It was an event that had the whole Espanola Valley community shaken. Cameron Martinez, a 2018 Espanola Valley High School graduate and member of the boys basketball team, was killed in a drive-by shooting Oct. 4 in front of Ohkay Owingeh Casino. As the details of the shooting were released, how it was a case of mistaken identity, added to the senselessness of how such a bright young life could be taken so abruptly.

A memorial service will be held for Cameron Martinez at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Española Valley High School gym. Martinez was shot and killed Oct. 4. Four people have been arrested and three charged with first-degree murder.
