“Ban the Box” For Employment Applications Starts Friday, June 14, 2019

ALBUQUERQUE — Starting Friday, June 14, it will be illegal for New Mexico employers to ask for the criminal history of job seekers on job application forms. Senate Bill 96, which “bans the box,” was passed in the 2019 legislative session and signed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham in April. The bill aims to level the playing field for the 70 million Americans with an arrest or conviction history.
