It’s not too late for New Mexico farmers and ranchers to apply for financial relief as a result of impacts from the coronavirus pandemic. The deadline to apply for the United States Department of Agriculture’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) is Friday, Aug. 28.

New Mexico Grown Fruits And Vegetables For Senior Meals Program Pilot Succeeds

In a time when New Mexican’s are challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, and seniors and students are no longer able to participate in meals at senior centers and schools, New Mexico seniors are benefiting from a new state initiative called the New Mexico Grown Fruits and Vegetables for Senior Meals Program Pilot. This Wednesday, June 24th at 12 noon, local farmers will deliver freshly picked vegetables to the Sandoval County Meadowlark Senior Center located at 4330 Meadowlark Lane, Rio Rancho, to be prepped Thursday, and delivered to seniors Friday to enjoy.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that it has purchased more than $2.2 billion of meat, fruits, vegetables, specialty crops and dairy products in fiscal years 2019 and 2020 in its ongoing efforts to feed people in need and assist American farmers and ranchers suffering from damage due to unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations.
