Secretary Of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver Launches Campaign To Become First Woman To Serve New Mexico In U.S. Senate

ALBUQUERQUE—New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver on Wednesday kicked off her campaign (watch video here) to become the first woman to represent New Mexico in the U.S. Senate, running on a her record as a progressive government reformer, environmentalist and strong supporter of women’s reproductive health care.

“As Secretary of State, I’ve expanded voting rights and shined a light on dark money in politics—I even took on the Koch Brothers and won,” Toulouse Oliver said. “Now I’m ready to go to Washington to fight for a Green New Deal, Medicare for All and real campaign finance reform.

If elected, Toulouse Oliver would be the first woman to serve New Mexico in the U.S. Senate.

“We need more women in Washington,” Toulouse Oliver said. “It’s that simple. We’ve seen a dramatic change in the House of Representatives, now it’s time to change the face of the Senate by electing the first woman Senator from New Mexico.”

Following her online campaign kickoff Wednesday (watch video here), Toulouse Oliver is jumping in to a campaign tour with stops in Las Cruces, Silver City, Gallup, Española and Rio Rancho.

“I’m excited to hear more from New Mexicans around the state,” Toulouse Oliver said. “I want to hear what they want out of Washington so that we finally have a Washington that works for New Mexico.”
