Santa Fe National Forest Reopens Monday (7/9)

Santa Fe National Forest will reopen its lands to recreational use Monday (7/9) after several days of high humidity and rain showers have mitigated the extreme fire danger risk that had led officials to close the Forest June 1 to all recreational activites.

“We noticed conditions starting to improve two weeks ago when moisture levels increased due to higher humidity,” said James Melonas, forest supervisor. “The recent rain is the beginning of what we can expect to be a good monsoon season. The Carson and Cibola National Forests are closely monitoring local conditions to determine the safe timing for the lifting of any closures and restrictions.”

The Forest will reopen at 8 a.m Monday and Stage II Fire restrictions have also been lifted.
