Pojoaque Can’t Stop Los Alamos

The Pojoaque Valley High School football team couldn’t stop the Los Alamos High School Hilltopppers Sept. 7 at Pojoaque. The Elks never got going on offense and trailed 32-0 at halftime. The game ended late in the third quarter under the 50-point mercy rule. The Elks will lick their wounds and try to rebound against Escalante High School Friday at Pojoaque.

Despite coming from a smaller classification and having an enrollment much lower than Pojoaque’s, the Lobos have had the Elks’ number the last two years. Escalante beat Pojoaque 38-14 in 2016 and last season smothered the Elks 55-0 at Escalante. Both teams come into the game with 1-2 records. Pojoaque picked up a 36-23 win over Santa Fe Indian School Aug. 30 in Santa Fe. Pojoaque lost its opening game of the season 67-14 against Capital High School in Santa Fe. The Lobos won their opening game 28-26 against Tucumcari High School Aug. 24 at Escalante. Escalante has suffered two lopsided losses since then. Bloomfield High School beat Escalante 71-21 Aug. 31 at Bloomfield. Estancia High School handed the Lobos a 46-6 loss Sept. 7 at Estancia.
