Carlos E. Vigil of Nambe

Carlos E. Vigil, a lifelong resident of Nambe, was born on August 11, 1973 and passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

Carlos was a loving son, grandson, father and nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Vigil Jr.; brother, James Saiz; uncle, Tony Vigil and grandparents, Enrique and Frances Vigil.

Carlos is survived by his son, Lorenzo Rios-Vigil; mother, Monica Saiz; grandparents, Lorenzo and Emma Herrera; maternal aunts and uncle, Gabriela (Dave) Torrez, Cathy (Robert) Rivera, Noreen (Bob) Romero and Adrian Herrera; paternal aunts and uncles, Josie (Alex) Abeyta, Jimmy (Maxine) Vigil, Helen Atencio, William (Dolores) Vigil, Theresa (Freddy) Martinez, Barbara (David) Maestas, Annie (James) Maestas; many loving relatives, friends, and special friends/mentors, Herman Leporowsky and Mary Isvell.

A rosary will be recited on February 6, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe with a Memorial Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. 

Burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Nambe. Honorary pallbearers will be his Delancy Street Foundation Family.

Emily V. Martinez of Fairview

Emily V. Martinez, 85, a resident of Fairview, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 29, 2018, surrounded by family members and loved ones.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Martinez; son, Lonnie DeVargas; parents, Melaquias and Maclovia Vargas; biological father, Emilio DeVargas; brothers, Ubaldo, Mike and LeRoy Vargas and sister, Edna Lovato.

Emily was a homemaker who loved to cook and spend time with her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was known for her quick wit, an ability to make people laugh and the countless “dichos” she knew. Everyone loved her tortillas and she was most proud of winning a Chile Cook-Off several years ago for her red chile.

Emily is survived by her children, Paul (Myra) Martinez, Brenda Delgado and partner Harry Miera, Dee Arlene Ceballos and partner Martin Talamantes, Ron Martinez, and Maureen (Daniel) Martinez, who were her primary caretakers; sisters, Adelina Leichtle of Sun City, Arizona, Irene Jacquez of Farmington; brothers, Robert (Linda) DeVargas of Las Cruces and Emilio (Virginia) DeVargas of Farmington; close sister-in-law, Cecilia DeVargas; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Cruz United Methodist Church in Santa Cruz. Burial took place on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Petaca Cemetery.
