NDI New Mexico Performances in Pojoaque Next Week!

The National Dance Institute is performing their annual performance March 21 and 22 at Pojoaque Valley High School. NDI New Mexico’s North program will hold performances staring almost 600 students from area schools in a performance called “Got Jazz!” –  a tribute to the history and influences of jazz music – one of our country’s greatest cultural achievements.

The performance will begin with a journey to New Orleans – where Ragtime, the Blues and Spirituals blended and gave birth to jazz music. Students will pay homage to some of jazz’s greatest performers including: Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Tito Puente – all of whom have influenced our music, culture and imaginations.

Event organizers released the following statement about the show. “In the times of school shootings, fear and despair are ranking high in the lives of our youth. We have a chance to be inspired by almost 600 elementary school students from Pojoaque, Chimayo and the Espanola Valley next week through their NDI New Mexico performances. We are celebrating our 20th year at Pablo Roybal this year – a commitment made possible by our funding partners, principals, teachers and staff. The children of Pojoaque Valley appreciate this longstanding program, and look forward to their arrival in fourth-grade to allow them to participate in NDI classes!”
