Mireya Martinez Of Santa Cruz Crowned Princess Miss Rodeo New Mexico 2015-2016

Mireya Martinez of Santa Cruz was crowned Princess Miss Rodeo New Mexico 2015-2016 during the annual Miss Rodeo New Mexico Pageant (MRNMP) June 2-5 in Clovis.

Martinez also is the winner of the Pageant Horsemanship Award. She will be an ambassador for Rodeo, especially at the youth level, and appear in public relation projects.

The pageant was held in conjunction with the 45th Annual Pioneer Days PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association). Contestants were judged on horsemanship skills, knowledge of professional rodeo, media and current events, western fashion and appearance, and speaking ability. The competition resulted in the crowning of State Royalty for the upcoming year.

Serving as judges for the three day competition were Markie Oden and Shawna Shields from Lubbock, Texas and Ronda Pool from Clovis. Invited out-of- state Royalty for the Pageant and Rodeo were: Miss Rodeo America 2015, Lauren Heaton, from Oklahoma, and Miss Rodeo Washington 2015 Katherine Merck.

Also crowned during the pageant:

She plans to pursue her education at NMSU, working on a Bachelor degree in Animal Science. During her reign, she will appear at selected PRCA sanctioned rodeos as well as other related open and youth rodeos.

Tylie Garrison, 10, of Clovis was crowned as Little Miss Rodeo New Mexico 2015-2016. She was crowned by Miss Rodeo America, Lauren Heaton. Garrison also received an award for scoring 100 percent on the written exam. As Little Miss Rodeo New Mexico, she will promote the rodeo as she encourages other young ladies who would like to become rodeo royalty.
