Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Events Coming Up

Mesa Prieta, the Valley’s own amazing petroglyph preserve is hosting a number of activities for summer 2018. See below for a short list of upcoming activities.

1. Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project Public Tours - Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:30am.  Pre-registration is required. Reserve online at

2.Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Talks: Himalaya Bound 

Tuesday, May 22 At 6:30 PM  at the Northern Rio Grande Heritage Area Center (formerly the Onate Monument and Visitor’s Center). Author and photographer Michael Benanav will present pictures and stories from his book Himalaya Bound: One Family's Quest to Save Their Animals and an Ancient Way of Life.

3. Art on the Rocks: Creating Petroglyph Inspired Silk Scarves - Sunday July 1st, 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM

The Project is pleased to host fiber artist Nadina Barnes, who will lead us in dyeing silk scarves after a tour of the Wells Petroglyph Preserve. Lunch and Materials are Provided. Course Fee: $125
