Low Water At Abiquiu Lake

by Editor / Mar 29, 2019 / 0 comments
The water level at Abiquiu Lake is extremely low. Streamflow in the Chama River below Abiquiu Dam is at 1,000 cubic-feet-per second and the streamflow above Abiquiu Lake is at 912 cubic-feet-per-second. The lake is a popular fishing and boating destination.

The boat ramp at Abiquiu Lake currently stops short of the water, making the launching of boats very difficult.

Abiquiu Lake is currently at very low levels. Snowpacks in the Chama River Basin are well above average this year. The spring runoff from the melting snowpack should raise lake levels later this year. Completed in 1963 for flood control, the lake now stores water, including irrigation and drinking water, for downstream communities as part of the San Juan-Chama Project.
