Local Legislator Running For Land Commissioner Opens Albuquerque HQ

A local legislator, State Representative Stephanie Garcia Richard, a Democrat who represents parts of Rio Arriba County, Los Alamos, Sandoval County, and northern Santa Fe County(District 43)  is running to be New Mexico Land Commissioner, a statewide office. This past weekend her campaign opened a headquarters in Albuquerque for the June 5 primary election.

Garcia Richard has represented District 43 for six years, rising to be Chair of the House Education Committee and having served four years on the legislative budget committee.

If elected she would be the first woman to be State Land Commissioner. She is facing two opponents in the June primary. One Republican is also running and will be on the ballot in the general election in November.
