Espanola Honors Its Veterans On Memorial Day

Dozens of community residents came out on Memorial Day to remember those who have fallen in the service of their country.

Dave Pineda, Commander of American Legion Post 17, served as Master of Ceremonies. The empty chair on the far left is there to honor those still listed as missing in action and prisoners of war who were never released.

Manuel Valdez of the United States Marine Corps was Guest Speaker. He told the story of a National Guard Unit from New Mexico that was serving in the Phillipines when the Japanese invaded in 1941. They were forced to endure the infamous Bataan Death March.

Espanola Mayor Javier Sanchez spoke at the ceremony.
