Desert Sun Motors Sundevils Athlete of The Week

The Valley Daily Post, in cooperation with EVHS Athletics and our sponsor, Desert Sun Motors of Espanola, is proud to presents the EVHS Athlete of the Week.

This week the Española Valley High School Senior Alexis Lovato is the Desert Sun Motors Sundevils Athlete of the Week.

Alexis Lovato has been a starter for Espanola basketball since she was in eight grade. Coach Cindy Roybal and the team have given her the nickname “Beast” because, as her coach explained “she doesn’t relent.” The 5’10” senior wears the #24 on her jersey and her record attests to her tenacity and skills as a player.  

When asked what makes Alexis stand out, Coach Roybal responded “She’s the most dominating post player in the state right now. She is averaging over 20 points per game.’

The Valley Daily Post provided Lovato a questionnaire which was returned by the EVHS Athletic department. See below for her responses:

  • Grade In School: 12th
  • What do you hope to get out of playing basketball in High School? : I want to further my education while playing basketball.
  • What is your favorite subject in school?: English
  • Where do you hope to attend college and what do you want to study?: I am still undecided about where I want to attend, but I want to study nursing.
