Pecos Pounces On Panthers, Wins NRG Title

The Pecos High School Lady Panthers came up with some key baskets just when they needed them and knocked off defending champion Penasco High 57-54 in the championship game of the Northern Rio Grande basketball tournament Jan. 5 at Pojoaque Valley High School. Pecos took the lead for good with less than a minute left in the game on a big three-pointer by Brittney Martinez that broke a 51-51 tie.

After three back-to-back winter storms that brought cold temperatures and significant snowfall to the mountains and watersheds of Northern New Mexico last week, the numbers for our snowpack are looking good. The numbers look particularly good when compared to this time last year during which precipitation was well below normal. Last year at this time, the overall precipitation across the state was just 22-percent of normal. This year, they are 104-percent of normal.

Pojoaque Preps For Ruidoso After Taking Second At Ben Lujan Invitational tournament

The Pojoaque Valley boys basketball team prepared to take on the Ruidoso High School Warriors Jan. 3 in the opening round of the Mountain Madness Shootout after a snowy week of practice in Northern New Mexico. The Elks have shown signs of improvement. Pojoaque picked up a couple of victories at the Ben Lujan Invitational tournament hosted by Pojoaque Valley before losing to Bernalillo High School in the championship game.
