Strong First Half Carries Pojoaque To Victory

The Pojoaque Valley High School Elkettes came out strong and avenged an earlier defeat with a 45-33 victory over Los Alamos High School Feb. 22 at Los Alamos. With the victory, Pojoaque finishes in first place in District 2-4A, securing a seed in the Class 4A state basketball tournament. The Elkettes will host the championship game of the District 2-4A tournament Saturday at Ben Lujan Gym.

Cameron Martinez’s Memory Honored Before Opening Game

It was an event that had the whole Espanola Valley community shaken. Cameron Martinez, a 2018 Espanola Valley High School graduate and member of the boys basketball team, was killed in a drive-by shooting Oct. 4 in front of Ohkay Owingeh Casino. As the details of the shooting were released, how it was a case of mistaken identity, added to the senselessness of how such a bright young life could be taken so abruptly.

RTD Blue Bus Service Temporarily Halted Due To A Bomb Threat

At 11:05 AM, a male caller into the North Central Regional Transit District dispatch indicated that a bomb had been placed to detonate at 11:20 AM on either the 200 Santa Fe, 300 Taos or 400 Los Alamos bus. Police were notified and each bus was evacuated immediately. No bomb exploded at 11:20, meanwhile buses currently on all routes have been evacuated and temporarily halted while vehicle inspections take place. NCRTD will advise as service have resumed.

Voter Registration For General Election Ends Next Week

More than 54,000 eligible New Mexico voters remain unregistered.

Tuesday, October 9, is the last day to register to vote in the November 6 general election. In late September, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver began mailing 54,465 postcards to eligible but unregistered New Mexico voters, encouraging them to register at http://www.sos.state.nm.us/Voter_Information/voter-information-portal.aspx.
