National Weather Service issues high heat warning.

The National Weather Service has issues high heat warnings  for portions of north and central New Mexico.

Day One…Today and Tonight

Near to record breaking heat will be possible today across much of the forecast area. A heat advisory is in effect for Chaves County for this afternoon and early evening with high temperatures expected to range from 105 to 109. There is a greater risk of heat-related illnesses for those engaged in outdoor activities, as well as the elderly, children, and other heat-sensitive persons.

Days Two Through Seven…Tuesday through Sunday

Well above normal temperatures are expected across western portions of the state Tuesday and Wednesday. Farmington and Gallup may break or even tie their previously recorded highs.

Isolated to scattered showers along and east of the central mountain chain and southwestern mountains Wednesday through Sunday will be capable of gusty winds, frequent lightning, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall, especially over recent burn scar areas.
