Valdez Park Clean Up Great Success: Brings Business And City Together
ESPANOLA – Over fifty volunteers gathered at Valdez Park Friday for an Espanola Clean Up Day. This Clean Up day differed from past events with all volunteers concentrating their efforts at one site rather than the city as a whole. It was also the first with a business partner contributing people and resources to the effort. Del Norte Credit Union allowed 35 of their employees to spend the day weeding, cleaning and painting Valdez Park.
“This park hasn’t looked this good since I can remember,” said City Councilor Peggy Martinez.
Joe Ortega, President of the Little League Association was on hand to help as well. The City also had several employees coming in during the day to help.
Other individuals who participated at the Clean Up Day include Police Chief Richard Gallegos and his grand daughter Ajaya Gallegos.
The City of Espanola typically hosts a Clean Up Day twice a year. Councilor Martinez said that the partnership with Del Norte Credit Union was a great success and the City would welcome other partnerships with businesses, no matter what size they are. “These Public Private Partnerships are critical to the community and we hope to have them more often” said Martinez.
