NM Secretary of State Toulouse Oliver is available for in studio, phoners, and skype interviews for radio, TV, print, and web to explain the process of the new law.
The New Mexico Legislature recently passed historic legislation for same day voter registration that begins phasing in this election year. The attached flyers include the pertinent information and Secretary of State Toulouse Oliver wants to ensure all New Mexicans understand what the legislation means for this first election cycle as it phases in. During the early voting period that runs from October 8th to November 2nd this year, New Mexicans can register to vote and cast their ballots on the same day, as long as they do it at their county clerk’s office during this time period. Some county clerks will open additional early voting sites where people can register and vote on the same day – but that’s up to the discretion of the individual county clerks, and those sites will run from October 19th to November 2nd.
Per the legislation, this year New Mexicans can only register and vote on the same day up to November 2, 2019. On Election Day, November 5, 2019, New Mexicans must already be registered to vote; they will not be able to register to vote and also vote that same day this year.
