Update and Health Information for Española Water System Users

The City of Española recently received a notice of violation regarding nitrate levels in a City water test taken in November 2018. Since then, measurements in January and February of 2019, reflect the City’s compliance. The results from a water sample taken March 7, 2018 also show that the nitrate level in the Española drinking water are within the NMED parameters. The City Water Department is working diligently to ensure we remain in compliance with NMED standards.

In order to more aggressively and proactively measure nitrate levels, the City has implemented a policy, whereby it will collect water samples for testing on a weekly basis. This will help us monitor our blending strategies to provide the best quality water possible.

In addition, the City of Española has submitted its water well specifications to De Nora Water Technologies so that it may appropriately build an effective fluoride and nitrate removal system.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and will provide updates on our  website and social media.
