Trujillo Announces Bid For House District 40
Española, NM – With over 150 guests in attendance Sunday at the Santa Claran, Rio Arriba County Commissioner Barney Trujillo formally announced his bid for New Mexico’s House District 40 (Rio Arriba, Colfax, Mora, & San Miguel). Special guests included: Senator Richard Martinez, Rio Arriba Commissioner Alex Naranjo, Rio Arriba Commissioner Danny Garcia, Senate Chief Clerk Lenore Naranjo, Rio Arriba County Assessor Levi Valdez, Rio Arriba County Treasurer Agapito Candelaria, Probate Judge Max Quintana, Española School Board President Pablo Lujan, Española School Board Vice President Lucas Fresquez, Española School Board Member Yolanda Salazar, Mora County Commissioner and School Board President George Trujillo, Leo Marquez, and Senate Candidate for SD39 Ambrose Castillano.
“We are at a crossroads in Northern New Mexico and now, more than ever, we need leadership in Santa Fe that will fight to increase funding for our public schools, senior programs, and mental health services. I am honored to follow the 42 year career of Representative Nick Salazar and understand the importance of bringing jobs and vital resources back to the District, just like I have done for the last six years as Commissioner,” noted Trujillo.
Trujillo is originally from Chimayo, NM and became Commissioner of District 1 in 2010. Trujillo is a small business owner, with more than 12 years of experience in state government with projects involving oil and gas, commercial development, renewable energy, and agriculture. Other professional experience include: Chairman of Regional Coalition of LANL Communities, budget management for the State Land Office and securing funding for special needs projects with the Legislature and Congress. He has served on the Legislative Council Service (1998-1999) and worked in the State Land Office (2000-2010).
