Summer Adventures Available At Girl Scout Camp

The Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails have two Girl Scout camps that they own and operate, Camp Elliott Barker in Angel Fire and Rancho del Chaparral near Cuba.

Last year, nearly 2000 girls attended these summer camps. New this summer is a day camp in Albuquerque.

Every girl, not only Girl Scouts, in grades 1 through 12 can attend these summer camps. Camp sessions begin May 31 and end Aug. 5. There is a camp session for everyone, whether it is horseback riding, art, cooking, rock climbing or other.

The camps are not just for girls, families are encouraged to come to camp as well. This summer, numerous weekend family camp opportunities are available. Always popular are the “Me and My Gal” weekends for girls and their mother, aunt, grandmother, guardian, or other special woman in her life. Similarly, there is a “Me and My Guy Weekend.” Parents who have attended these weekends express their gratitude for giving them the opportunity to have this camp experience with their camper. These weekends give these adults and children true quality time, away from the distractions of home and responsibilities.

“Our Girl Scout camps impact girls on many levels, helping a girl better understand and appreciate nature, while she develops skills and increases her confidence,” said Peggy Sanchez Mills, CEO of the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, “We strive to give every girl across New Mexico the opportunity to experience Girl Scout camp and all the benefits.”

Today’s camps are highly evolved, matching the interests of 21st century girls. Girl Scouts moves at the speed of girls, which is evident in its wide range of camp offerings – everything from STEM and Super Hero Academy to Dance Mania, and Camp CEO. Girl Scouts is committed to pursuing its mission through the camp experience, offering an astounding array of innovative, fun, and memorable camp activities that allow girls to build courage, confidence, and character, and make the world a better place.
