Speaker Ben Lujan’s Memorial & Dedication
ESPAÑOLA – On Sunday, July 12 dignitaries from around the state will convene in the Española area for a special dedication ceremony to rename a portion of United States Highway 84/285 between Santa Fe and Española the “Ben Lujan Memorial Highway”.
Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives Don Tripp, State Senator Mary Kay Papen, and others will convene at 3 p.m. at 1 Gunbarrel Road for the ceremony.
Ben Lujan served in public office for more than 40 years, including 38 years as a State Representative from District 46 in northern Santa Fe County. His career in the legislature culminated in a 12-year tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives. In honor of Ben Lujan’s long and distinguished service on behalf of the people of New Mexico, this action is being taken at the unanimous request of the legislature and with the concurrence of the State Transportation Commission.
