Speaker Ben Lujan Memorialized: Hundreds Gather To Honor Lujan’s Legacy

ESPAÑOLA   – On Sunday afternoon dignitaries from around the state gathered along the side of the road outside Española   to witness as New Mexico Department of Transportation employees unveiled the new Ben Lujan Memorial Sign for U.S.Hwy. 84/285.

Sunday, July 12, 2015, would have been the former Speaker of the House, Ben R. Lujan’s 80th birthday. Speaker Lujan died in December 2012.

The former iron worker from Nambe rose to the top of New Mexico government as Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives with his beloved wife, Carmen, beside him all the way.

Speaker Lujan and Carmen are also the parents of Congressman Ben Ray Lujan, D-NM, third Congressional District
