Sipapu Ski Resort Hosts Popular Family Event

Staff Report

VADITO ―  Sipapu Ski Resort hosts its annual President’s Day weekend celebration, February Fun Fest!

It’s Sipapu’s most popular free family event, Feb. 18-20, which includes a giant snow castle, costume contest and parade, mountain-wide treasure hunt, games, prizes and more!

“February Fun Fest and our trademark snow castle is just another way that Sipapu shows its commitment to families. It’s a free event that our founding family, the Bolanders, started years ago. We’re proud to continue it every President’s Day weekend,” stated John Paul Bradley, mountain manager at Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort. “The castle takes several days for us to build, but the hours of work are always worth it when we see the smiles on kids’ and parents’ faces!”

Sipapu Snow Castle
Every year, a giant snow castle is built by the mountain team at Sipapu. It’s a snow playground for all ages and the only one in New Mexico!

Each year, the snow castle changes in design, but what remains constant is the sheer size, which is usually 2-3 stories tall, the unique creation of stairs, slides, flags, and plenty of places to play in the snow! The building of the snow castle begins Tuesday, Feb. 14 and lasts throughout the week until Feb. 17. The snow castle opens at 9am on Saturday, Feb. 18 and is open for all to explore and enjoy.

Treasure Hunt
This weekend, Sipapu hosts a fun Treasure Hunt, which is
part scavenger hunt and all adventure! Search the mountain Sat., Sun., and Mon. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for laminated letters. When letters gathered spell CLOWN, return them to Ski School for a great prize!

Costume Parade & Contest!
On Sat., Feb. 18, costumed skiers and snowboarders meet at the top of Lower Gamble at 12:30 pm and wind their way down to the base area to display their costumes and wave to the crowd.

Always a great photo opportunity, spectators can gather at the base area near Lift 1 to view the parade. Winners are announced at 1:30 p.m. at the Snow Castle when awards and prizes are given away. After the parade, enjoy piñata fun and balloon animals in the base area.

Santa Fe Brewing Happy Hops Hunt at Sipapu
For those 21 and older, partake in the Santa Fe Brewing Happy Hops Hunt. It’s a mountain-wide scavenger hunt in search of Santa Fe Brewing cans stuffed with prizes. Watch Sipapu’s Facebook and Twitter pages the day of the event for tips and clues to find the hidden cans. Redeem prizes in the base area.

Sipapu’s lifts turn 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily. For more information, visit SipapuNM.com.
