Rio Arriba County Spelling Bee Coming Jan 26
Top spellers from around Rio Arriba County will be heading to Gallina soon for the Rio Arriba County Spelling Bee. Scheduled for Jan. 26, or on Jan. 28 if weather is an issue, at the Gallina Elementary/Coronado MS/HS auditorium, students from schools throughout the county will face off.
Two students from each school will participate; the spelling bee will include one to two rounds of vocabulary as well as the traditional spelling bee rounds. The first place winner will advance to state competition in Albuquerque with a chance to advance to the national spelling bee in Washington DC.
All prizes and lunch are being provided by a small grant awarded to Jemez Mountain Schools from the LANL foundation in support of the Rio Arriba County Spelling Bee. Organizers of the event expressed gratitude for the support of education in local communities.
All participants will receive prizes as well as additional prizes and trophies for first, second and third place winners. Sponsors will also be recognized with a gift.
