Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Tierra Amarilla’s New Senior Trail & Gazebo

An opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Tierra Amarilla Senior Trail and Gazebo was held Sept. 30, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tierra Amarilla Senior Center. The gathering was to celebrate a project that started on April 1, 2015 with the mission of creating a trail, constructing a gazebo and flower beds for the community. Music and food was provided to the many of the Seniors and other invited guests which was inclusive of RAC STOP staff, the YCC Coordinator, work crew leaders and some of the YCC youth who worked the Trail and Gazebo project along with others from the County who assisted with the project. Commissioner Danny J. Garcia, Commissioner Alex Naranjo, County Manager Tomas Campos and RAC STOP Director spoke a few words to all attendees, thanked RAC STOP and the YCC crew for a successful project.
In September 2014 the RAC STOP Program was awarded $85,497.84 for the fiscal year 2015-2016 for the Youth Conservation Corps. The YCC was created to provide a process to employ the youth in public projects such as Trail Restoration, Habitat Preservation, Historic Structure Preservation and many other projects. Participants learned employment skills, work ethics, as well as self-discipline and self-esteem. The target recruitment consisted of adjudicated youth in the County’s Juvenile Community Corrections program and young adults with behavioral health issues in the Parole and Probation Department’s and Intensive Outpatient Program.
