Ben Lujan, or Ben Ray as his coaches call him, is a senior who has shown his team can rely on him to make things happen. In last week’s difficult game against Los Alamos, Ben Ray recorded 10 tackles and led the Pojoaque defense. Pojoaque Athletic Director Kevin Garcia described Lujan saying “As a team captain he leads the team with his words and actions. He holds himself and the team to practicing, preparing and playing to the best of their ability.”
The 5’ 7” Senior weighs in at 180 lbs and during his Junior year proved his strength. As a Junior, in his first season playing Varsity, Lujan had 163 rushing yards and 26 receiving. During the season he scored three touchdowns for the season.

Lujan is described as the type of player who isn’t afraid of contact. In a pre-season interview with the Valley Daily Post Lujan discussed his position as linebacker on defense, saying ““As long as I get to hit somebody.”
“The crack of the pads,” as his teammate Isaiah Maestas described it. Lujan has shown his strength of body and heart, playing for his team and school.
Congratulations Ben Lujan, from Henry Valencia’s Dealerships and all of us at the Valley Daily Post for being named Elks Athlete of the Week.
