Outfitter/Guide Applications For SFNF Special Use Permits Due Feb. 15
SANTA FE ― Commercial guides and outfitters seeking 2017 special use permits to operate on Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) lands must submit proposals by Feb. 15, 2017, for priority processing.
A special use authorization or permit is required when any use or activity on National Forest System lands charges an entry or participation fee and/or where the primary purpose is the sale of a good or service, regardless of whether it produces a profit.
Examples of activities requiring a special use authorization include hunting, hiking, skiing, and other outfitted uses, organized activities for groups or tours that charge a fee or generate income, and any sales of goods.
The Feb. 15 deadline applies to new multi-district outfitter permit proposals, existing permit holders who would like to extend or renew permits, and outfitters requesting changes to existing permits tha
t require additional environmental review and compliance.
The Feb. 15 deadline gives the Santa Fe National Forest an opportunity to review new permit proposals to ensure that forest resources are protected and environmental compliance is consistently applied to each proposal. Proposals submitted after Feb. 15 may be subject to delays in processing, depending on available staff time and other priorities.

Proposals for recreation events, such as family reunions, or one-time events located on only one Ranger District of the Forest are not subject to the February deadline. Please contact the local Ranger District for additional information on this type of authorization.
