O’Keeffe Welcome Center to Open
In 1970-71 I had the good fortune to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was during that time the Art Institute was showing a retrospective of Georgia O’Keeffe’s works, organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her work made a great impression on me but I had no idea that 25 years later we would buy a home in Abiquiu, not far from her home and studio.
The home and studio tours, over the years, have brought thousands through Abiquiu. This year a state of the art welcome center greets them. People will check in for tours, there are interactive exhibits, a retail space offers O’Keeffe and O’Keeffe Museum related merchandise, and there is a meeting room that will be available to the community for meetings and lectures. All this in an elegant setting that I think Miss O’Keeffe would be proud of.
The Welcome center opens May 1st. Stop in and check it out but be sure not to miss their Grand Opening.
There will be an Abiquiú Community Grand Opening May 19th, 11 AM to 4:00 PM
Abiquiú residents and Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Members are welcome to the grand opening of the O’Keeffe Welcome Center. The grand opening will feature a live band, food, family friendly art projects, and more. The official ribbon cutting will take place at noon. The event will take place rain or shine.
