Obituary: Benita Marquez of Chimayo
Benita Marquez, age 54, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Jesus Rangel; father, Vicente Martinez Jr.; paternal grandparents, Vicente Sr. and Beatriz Martinez; maternal grandparents, Canuto and Marcelina Romero.
Benita was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She developed lasting friendships, as those who knew her loved her instantly and enjoyed her wit and infectious laugh. She will be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and true love for people.
Benita is survived by her mother, Rose R. Martinez of Chimayo; sisters, Letitia Martinez (Patricia LeDoux) of Cimarron and Marcelina “Marcie” Martinez (Gil Romero) of Santa Cruz; brothers, Peter Martinez (Natalie) of Colorado Springs, CO., Adrian Martinez (Cheryl) of Albuquerque and Felix Martinez (Marie) of Chimayo; former husband, Edward Marquez; special cousin, Sharon Gordillo of Cedar Park, TX.; special friend, Andrew Ortiz of Chimayo; as well as many nieces, nephews, special aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and close friends.
Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, burial will follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores cemetery in Chimayo. Serving as pallbearers will be Peter, Adrian, and Felix Martinez, Gil Romero, Andrew Ortiz and Edward Marquez. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny DeVargas and Jorge Gordillo.
