Tammy A. Coriz of Medanales

Tammy A. Coriz, 53, a resident of Medanales, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 26, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Phyllis Coriz; brothers, Orlando Coriz, Albert, Jr., and Leonard Coriz; and grandparents, Beatrice and Kenneth Arnold, Santiago and Ann Marie Coriz.

Tammy was born in San Francisco, California. She graduated from Bernalillo High School and lived in Santo Domingo and later moved to Medanales in 1995. She worked at the Camel Rock Casino as a cook for 15 years and then worked at Walmart for 8 years as a receiver.

Ms. Coriz is survived by her sons, Ferrell Coriz of Albuquerque and Dominic Coriz of Medanales; granddaughters, Addison and Hayden of Albuquerque; siblings, Louise (Alonzo Martinez) of Medanales, Deanna Tenorio of Bernalillo, Anthony, Diane, Jacque, Emerson of Santo Domingo; raised by Albert and Mary J. Coriz; aunt, Terecita Aguilar; uncle, Remijo Coriz; step-mother, Daisy Coriz also many cousins, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez. Burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery in Hernandez with the following serving as pallbearers, Leonard Coriz, Cameron Tenorio, Jared Tenorio, Cody and Crag Coriz and Joel Cockrum.

Darren S. Lopez of La Puebla

Darren S. Lopez, 51, a resident of La Puebla went home with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 26, 2019 with his family by his side. Darren was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Eddie and Lola Maestas, his paternal grandparents, Melisendro and Emma Lopez and his youngest brother Angelo M. Lopez.

Darren was a craftsman in the drywall industry in New Mexico and Nevada most of his life, he also worked for the State of New Mexico Highway Department, Santa Fe County and was working for N3B at LANL until he became ill. Darren will be remembered for his big personality who was full of life, energetic and liked to laugh. Darren also liked to read, play board games with family, listen to music, catch football and play basketball. Darren’s pride and joy were his two children. 

Darren is survived by his father Charlie S. Lopez and wife Roxana and mother Pauline M. Martinez and husband Anthony; children, Gabriella Parissa-Sierra Lopez and Adrian Steve Lopez of Las Vegas, NV; siblings Shelly T. Landwehr and brother-in-law, Jerry of Las Vegas, NV, Carlo T. Lopez of Cuarteles, Nadia Lopez of La Puebla, Esther Manzanares of Espanola and Edward Manzanares of Vallecitos and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Modesta Ruiz of Alcalde

Modesta Ruiz 91, a resident of Alcalde, passed away Thursday April 11, 2019 at her home of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vicente Viarrial. Husband, Alfonso Ruiz. Sister Mary Nowinski. Brothers; Felix Martinez, Ceasario, Amarante and Demetrio Viarrial. Parents; Rosendo Villareal and Celestina Martinez. Daughters; Jeannette Quintana and Diane Rosenblum.

Modesta was a retiree of Presbyterian Health Services. She was a member of the Pink Ladies at Espanola Hospital. She also served ST. Vincent de Paul for many years. She also worked for Mattel Industries in Los Angeles until returning to New Mexico.

She is survived by her son; Vicente Viarrial of Alcalde. Daughters; Elizabeth and husband Mickey Jimenez of South Gate, California and Shirley Salazar and husband Sammy of La Mesilla. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

Rosary was recited on Friday April 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m., both at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan. Burial was at the Alcalde Cemetery.

Harold E. Sanchez of Velarde

Harold E. Sanchez, 39, a resident of Velarde, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold J. Sanchez and Mary Alice Lopez.

Harold grew up ranching with his father and became an avid outdoorsman. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and working on cars. He always had a smile on his face and made friends with everyone. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Harold is survived by his sister, Bernadine Gonzales (Frank DeHerrera); children, Harold E. Sanchez Jr. and Julian J. Sanchez; grandson, Austyn Sanchez; significant other, Veronica Quintana; stepchildren, Derek and Caitlin Hice; nephews, Michael Baca and Matthew Gonzales; uncle, Macedonio Sanchez (Teresa); and many cousins and friends.

A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, with a Memorial mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.
