Obituaries

The DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley reports the recent deaths of VIRGINIA L. ROMERO, ALDO MARQUEZ PALACIOS and ELISEO J. MARTINEZ.


VIRGINIA L. ROMERO of Nambe
VIRGINIA L. ROMERO, a lifelong resident of Nambe, was born January 1, 1926 and went to be with our Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose C. Romero; parents, Gregorio and Beroniz Lopez and Julian and Rose Trujillo; in-laws, Atanacio and Petra Romero; son, Horacio Romero, grandsons, Steven Martinez and Gregory Romero; sister, Ernestine Trujillo, brothers, Leopoldo, Maclovio, and Horacio Lopez, brothers and sister-in-law, Louis, Augustine, and Altagracia Romero. Virginia enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking care of everyone.

Her door was always open and there was always room at her table. She especially enjoyed her weekly visit from her “Consentido” great, great grandson Anthony. She was a devoted member of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Parish and the Sacred Heart Church in Nambe. She was strong, humble and loving and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children Erlinda and Richard Key and family, Victoria, Mateo, Devin and Jacob; Pete and Angie Romero and family, Dave and Louie, Loyola and Raymond Garcia and family, James, Arlene, Alyssa, Michael, Anthony, Gabriella, Steven and James Lee, Dolores Romero and Family, Amie, Ted and Ashleyrae, George and Virginia Romero and Family, Stacey and Neal, Marlene and Charlie Lujan and family, Nicholas and Eduardo, Patsy and Albert Martinez and Alex, Roberta and Asencion Martinez and family Tamara, Eli, Judy, Brittany, Matthew, Keyana, and Xander; sisters, Miquela and husband Arturo Romero, Prescilla and husband Joe Lovato, and Rafaelita Martinez; sister-in-law, Mary Quintana; the following held a special place in her heart, Katie, Khloe, Kristy Alire, Azariah, Ethan, Baily and Micah Rohrs.

Public visitation will begin on Monday, February 20, 2017 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.  Serving the family as pallbearers, Alex Martinez, Joseph Lovato, Leroy Lopez, Rick Romero, Mateo DeVargas and Robert Garcia; honorary pallbearers, Stacey R. Palmer, Eduardo Lujan, Nicholas Lujan, Louie Romero, Adrian Ortiz, Michael Lopez, Dani Bustos, Manuelito Garcia, Lonnie Martinez, and her God children, Leonard Lopez, Darlene Garcia, Joseph Lovato and Dave Romero.

ALDO MARQUEZ PALACIOS of Española
ALDO MARQUEZ PALACIOS, 50, a resident of Española, was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Julia Marquez and niece, Brenda Quezada. Aldo was loved by all his family he had such a big heart, and loved everyone and was always so happy. He enjoyed cruising (rain or shine) dancing and being at the casino was the greatest joy of his life. Aldo was a creative man. He enjoyed arts and crafts making scorpions and dream catchers.  Aldo is survived by his daughters, Crystal and Christine Marquez; mother of his daughters, Susie Hernandez; son, Angel Marquez (Brittany and unborn grandson Angel Aldo); mother of his son, Melanie Lopez; girlfriend, Mary Jane Romero; brothers, Juan Marquez and Noe “Leko” Marquez (Julie), sisters, Chela Marquez (Jesus Miramontes), Dora Marquez (Hugo Quezada), Rosa Marquez and Esther Marquez and numerous nephews and nieces. Public Visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, with a burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers, Angel Marquez, Juan Marquez, Noe Quezada, James Daniel Martinez, Diego Miramontes and Juanito Marquez. Honorary pallbearers, Lorena Miramontes, Edgar Quezada, Marvin Enriquez, Julia Gonzales, Bianca Gonzalez, Tyra Marquez and Noelia Gonzalez.

The family of Aldo Marquez Palacios has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.


ELISEO J. MARTINEZ, of Española
ELISEO J. MARTINEZ, 78, a resident of Española, formerly of Chimayo, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentin and Evarda Martinez; brother, Belarmino Martinez; uncle, Jose Vigil; sons-in-law, Larry Romero Sr. and Delfin Martinez, sister-in-law, Eppie Martinez and Carmen Martinez; mother-in-law, Sorida Trujillo. Eliseo worked for the Española Public Schools and James H. Rodriguez as a custodian.

He loved spending time with his family, loved gambling and spending time in the outdoors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He is survived by his lifelong companion, Mary Martinez of Española; daughters, Cindy Martinez and companion Lorenzo Galvan of Española, Viola Martinez and husband Armando Rascon of El Duende, Sandra Martinez of Fairview, Teresita Martinez of Española; grandchildren, Josephine Martinez, Juanito Martinez, Larry Romero Jr., Crystal Romero, Amanda Rascon Martinez, Angel Martinez, and Patrick Martinez,; brothers, Leroy, Johnny, and Stevan Martinez, sister, Epimenia Rodriguez; sister-in-law, Ruby and Gilbert Baca, brother-in-law, Joe Trujillo and numerous relatives and friends.

Public visitation will begin on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with a Nuestra Senora de Dolores Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers, Armando Rascon, Patrick Martinez, Larry Romero Jr., Lorenzo Galvan, honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
