Leonard R. Martinez,of Alcalde
Leonard R. Martinez, age 71, a resident of Alcalde, passed away at home on August 9, 2017, following a courageous battle with cancer. Leonard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bernardeta and Filiberto Martinez; his grandparents, Josephina and Alexandro Gallegos; and his siblings Joseph, Richard, Filiberto Jr., Donald Ray, John, and Patsy Martinez, and Marjorie Young.
Leonard R. Martinez was born in Española on November 16, 1945. He attended Española Valley High School and Vocational School. He worked 10 years as a carpenter and was a member of the Laborers International Union. He then went on to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory until his retirement in 2006. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War in which he served in the army. He also received training to be a certified mechanic. He loved spending time with his loving wife and family. They enjoyed cruises and gambling trips together. He also loved fishing and having picnics with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed teaching his family to do all kinds of work themselves. He was always willing to help everyone with whatever they were working on. He will be greatly loved and missed everyday by those who were blessed to have him in their lives.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Lou Martinez; son, Brain and wife Michelle of Alcalde; grandchildren, Brian Jr. and Gabrielle Martinez, and son Mark and husband Matthew of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his brother, Antonio D. Martinez and wife Carole of Illinois; aunts and uncles, Charlotte and husband Cipriano Martinez, John and wife Florence Gallegos, and Alex Gallegos all of Alcalde; sisters in law, Cora, Marie, and Diane Martinez of Alcalde, Lucy Martinez of Albuquerque, Isabel and husband Ross Olivas of El Llano, and Betty and husband Henry Pacheco of Santa Fe; and brothers in law, Herman Young of Alcalde, Elias and wife Marsha Quintana of Albuquerque, and Sam Quintana and fiancée Annette Chacon of Santo Niño. He is also survived by many loving Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 6:30 pm, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the San Juan Parish in Ohkay Owingeh, with the burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Elias, Thomas, and Sam Quintana, Ross Olivas, Henry Pacheco, and Ben Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Kotek and Sal Olguin.

Sabino Samuel “S.S.” Vigil, of Cundiyo
Sabino Samuel “S.S.” Vigil, a lifelong resident of Cundiyo, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 after having lived an active and rewarding life for 94 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esquipula & Francisquita Vigil; brother, Dimas Vigil & wife Dulcinea; brother-in-law, Juan Trujillo; father and mother-in-law, Eugenio & Sarita Trujillo; sister-in-law, Sabinita Martinez & husband Gerbacio Martinez and God-son, Billy Martinez.
Mr. Vigil proudly served his country during World War II and participated in the First Wave Normandy Invasion, Omaha Beach. After the war, he returned to Cundiyo, where he married his wife and provided a strong foundation for his family. He worked for the New Mexico Highway Department for 31 years. Upon retiring, he devoted the next 35 years to tending to his cattle, garden, his rancho, weaving for the Ortega’s weaving shop, and operating a small convenience store and gas station in Cundiyo.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Andreita Vigil; daughters, Yolanda Vigil & husband Tomas of Chimayo, and Ginnie Romero and husband Antonio of Cordova; grandchildren, Mario (raised like a son) and wife Tracy, Crestina, Elias, and Diego Vigil, and Angela Romero and Jake; great-granddaughters, Kaelyn & Layla Mueller. He is also survived by sisters, Tonie Trujillo and Floraida Vigil and brother, Abel and wife Mary Vigil, brother-in-law, Gilbert Trujillo and wife Tillie; God-children, Dolores Arreola, Beverly Vigil, Susan Pacheco, Mario Vigil and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Services are pending and will be announced as soon as they become available. Serving the family as pallbearers will be, Antonio Romero, Tomas, Mario, Elias, Diego & Severo Vigil.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pojoaque Valley School District Foundation, 1574 State Road 502, Santa Fe, NM 87506.

Patrick Vernon Medina, Jr Of Peñasco
Patrick Vernon Medina, Jr., aka “PJ”, 21, a resident of Peñasco, went to be with the Lord on Friday August 11, 2017 after a tragic car accident.
He was preceded in death by his nana, Rosie Medina; great-grandparents, Alfred and Epifania Medina, Andronico and Leanarda Roybal, Louise and Patricia Herrera and Herman and Regina Valdez.
PJ was born on July 21, 1996 in Taos. He graduated from Peñasco High School in 2014 and recently graduated with an associate in pre-engineering from UNM with honors. He was an employee of Los Alamos National Laboratory for the past 4 years at TA-53. He was such a kindhearted, compassionate, soft spoken loving person that was adored by many.
He loved being with family and close friends making unforgettable memories. He had such a witty sense of humor that drew many people to him. PJ had such a love for sports and the outdoors. PJ is survived by his parents, Patrick and Yolanda Medina; sisters, Savanah Medina and Diana Blanco; grandparents, Obed Medina, and Orlando and Judy Montoya; aunts, Antionette Medina, Jackie Montoya, Vangie Montoya, and Stella Montoya (James); uncle, Orlie Montoya and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Public visitation will begin on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sat. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Peñasco. Burial to follow at the San Pedro Cemetery in Peñasco with the following serving as pallbearers, Orlie Montoya, Daniel Medina, Mario Romero, Steven Vigil, Jason Medina, Matias Romero, Anthony Sanchez, Donevon Sanchez and Michael Martinez.

Leroy Martinez of Chile
Leroy Martinez, 66, a resident of Chile, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo Martinez and Savinta Rodriguez; 2 infant sons, Leroy Martinez, Jr. and Willie Martinez; step-father, Max Duran; God-daughter, Maxine Josephine Valdez; God-son, Paco Martinez and brother, Robert Presley Martinez.
Leroy enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his brother, Richard Martinez. He liked fishing with his brother, Faustine, and spending time with all of his grandchildren. He enjoyed helping his friend, Mike, sell piñon. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his children, George Martinez and wife Ericka, Leroy Martinez, Jr. and wife Andrea, Lisa Baca and LeeAnne Vigil and husband Davi; mother of his 3 children, Tomasita Martinez; brothers and sisters, Richard Martinez and wife Savina, Faustine Martinez and wife Marlene, Abelina Martinez and Jenny Ruiz; grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Adrian, Brittany, Leroy III, Johnathon, Angel, Allayah, Jayden, Janelle, Ray, Jr., Jose and Laelah; great-grandchildren, Dezmond, Mia, Jaylen; God-daughter, Sophie DeAguero; sister-in-law, Erlinda Martinez; best friends, Richard Lopez, Steve Mondragon and wife Sabrina and Mike Martinez and numerous other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a memorial mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at the Chili Cemetery.
