Northern to Host Training on PTSD

Northern to Host Training on PTSD

On Friday, October 16, Northern New Mexico College will host a training on techniques and tools that assist in PTSD recovery. The event, which is being sponsored by the College’s Veterans Resource Center, is free to all veterans, Northern students and their spouses.

The two-day event titled, “Resiliency Training: Relief & Release – Control PTSD, Don’t Let It Control You,” will be facilitated by Dr. Layne Kalbfleisch, Director of the Krasnow Investigations of Developmental Learning and Behavior at George Mason University.

“PTSD is a serious condition that many northern New Mexicans battle every day,” said Frank Orona, Northern’s Director of Veterans and Career Services. “This training is designed to help anyone, not only veterans, who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic or terrifying event and need help with recovering from those events.”

Northern opened its Veterans Resource Center in November 2014. The Center’s mission is to provide veterans of all ages, and their families, with the resources that assist them in transitioning from active duty to the life of a civilian.

Registration for the retreat is open through October 9 which includes access to workshops, meals for the two-day event and entertainment on the evening of the 16th. A conference rate is being provided by the Ohkay Casino and Resort for participants needing lodging. Those interested may register online or by calling 505-747-5499.
