Norteno Morgage Company Building Demolished
By ROBERT NARANJO
The old Norteno Mortgage Company office at 523 E. Fairview Lane was demolished recently. The building had housed other offices in its history. It was located across Valle del Sol Insurance just behind Walgreens. Plans for the lot are unknown at this point.
According to on-line real estate and mortgage company listings, Norteno Mortgage Company, Inc. was “a small loan broker in Espanola, New Mexico. It had three full-time employees…”
A phone call to the number listed was answered by a standard recording informing the caller that the “number was disconnected or no longer in service.”
A call to City Hall on the day the building was being demolished did not result in an answer to the question as to why the building was being torn down.
No Planning and Land Use (P&LU) department staff were immediately available and although the operator tried to find an answer during the call, no she asked was exactly sure and did not want to speculate on the reason the building was being torn down.
It’s likely that the vacant offices had become a danger to the public and had created a public nuisance.
