Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project Talk With Dr. Emily Brown, July 30
Learn about prehistoric instruments of the Southwest.
Dr. Emily Brown presents: Prehistoric Instruments of the Southwest. Studying music from an archaeological perspective may seem counterintuitive because the music cannot be reconstructed, but much can be learned about music in the past by examining instruments found in archaeological sites, analyzing the contexts in which they were found, and by supplementing with additional lines of evidence such as imagery, ethnographic information, and written accounts from the contact period. This presentation provides an overview of the different musical instruments found in archaeological sites from the Southwest.
Arrive at 6 p.m. for refreshments. Lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. Your $5 donation helps ensure that Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project can continue to bring you these exciting and informative talks throughout the summer.
