Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observed In The Valley

Edgar Wallace (above) narrated the story of Esteban the Black to the audience at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration held at the Bond House Jan. 16 in Espanola. Esteban the Black was an African slave brought to the New World by his Spanish master to establish a colony in Florida.  He eventually traveled throughout what is now the American Southwest. The presentation is part of the New Mexico Humanities Council History and Culture Series. The celebration was hosted by the San Gabriel Historical Society.
