Luján Statement On Vote To Keep Government Open

Washington, D.C.  U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the House passage of a government funding package to keep the federal government open through December 11:

“Today, the House of Representatives came together to prevent a government shutdown that would have further damaged our economy and hurt Americans during this pandemic. This funding package keeps the federal government running and provides $8 billion in nutrition assistance for struggling families and children. House Democrats have already passed critical government appropriations packages for the next fiscal year. These packages would bolster America’s economic recovery, improve health care, protect our environment, and support Tribal communities.

“As we pass this legislation today, our nation mourns the loss of more than 200,000 American lives to the coronavirus pandemic. It is past time for Mitch McConnell to allow a vote on the Heroes Act and provide support for American families and much-needed aid for local, state, and Tribal governments. The American people can’t afford a pause on additional relief.”
