Washington, D.C. – Today, Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (NM-03) announced that Awn Sian Mung (Mungsan) will be joining him as a guest to this year’s State of the Union address, which will be held Tuesday, February 5.
“I’m honored to have Mungsan join me for this year’s State of the Union address,” said Luján. “Mungsan came to this country as a refugee, and is now using his experience to help others who are seeking a better life in New Mexico. His aspirational story shows us what’s possible in America if we expand our sense of our shared humanity.”
Mungsan is a former refugee from Myanmar (Burma) who was initially resettled in Colorado. He now serves as a Lead Case Manager for Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mungsan voted in a democratic election for the first time this past November.
