As an individual who has been commuting and utilizing public transit for at least the past 20 years, I couldn’t be more dependent on the system in my everyday life. To say I am grateful for this option in my life would be a gross understatement. I rely on the NCRTD’s Blue Buses to do the simple tasks that many of us take advantage of in our day-to-day activities. Things such as going to the store, getting to appointments and volunteering would not be possible for me without the Blue Bus.

Blue BusI need the Blue Bus to get around because I don’t have a car, and I don’t drive. I have been a longtime public transit user and I even remember when the Blue Buses were white. The process of setting up a ride is simple and easy. I just call the day before to coordinate the details, and rides are always available for me. It gives me a sense of security knowing I can get to the places that I need to go in order to maintain my independence. Public transportation is very important to me and my life. It IS my life as an individual without a car.

I typically use the buses to go to appointments and to volunteer. I am very happy to have the buses in my life, and they help me give back to my community in Española. Volunteering has always been a passion of mine, and I am so glad I can continue to help others in need. The buses bless me, and in turn I decide to go out and bless others.

Everyone in our community should be happy that we have access to such amazing public transit options. The service that NCRTD provides benefit everyone in Española, and it is by far a cheaper and more affordable option than driving your own car. Adding up the expenses of a car payment, gasoline cost, repair and maintenance—the list goes on and on. Over the past two decades I have been able to save a significant amount of money thanks to public transit. This is another benefit that I am grateful for as a Blue Bus rider.

The fact of the matter is that the NCRTD’s Blue Buses are the safest and most reliable transportation option out there. Even if you rely on your own vehicle or a friend or family member to provide you with a ride, things happen last-minute and you could be stuck with a broken-down vehicle or an unreliable ride. That simply does not happen with the Blue Bus. You can set your watch by their schedule, and the system is there for you when you need it. All of their buses are ADA compliant, and this increases access for everyone to enjoy a ride, regardless of their physical limitations.

As an added bonus, the staff and drivers at NCRTD are some of the friendliest people that I have ever met. The drivers are professionally trained, with a smile on their face to greet you every day. I would encourage anyone who has not taken a ride on the Blue Bus to give it a try. And, please think of those in the community who rely on their services when faced with the issue of reauthorizing their funding, as well as all of the employees who work for the NCRTD. This is a vital service for so many people and it provides jobs and a steady income to so many here in Española and beyond.
