Living Treasures Honored In Española

ESPAÑOLA  – Isabel “Belle” Becker and Isabel Ziegler have been stewards of the Española  Valley for over 50 years and were awarded the “Living Treasure Award” at Tuesday night’s City Council Meeting.

Isabele “Belle” Becker

Isabel “Belle” Becker was given the award for her unwavering support for higher education and helping secure $350,000 in funding for Northern New Mexico College.  Mayor Alice Lucero noted Becker’s commitment to her family, church, and communities are just a few reasons she received the award.


Isabel Ziegler

Since moving to Española  with her husband, Sam, to establish the Valley’s first hospital, Isabel Ziegler has been a pillar in the community. Ziegler was most notably responsible for helping establish Española ‘s first library, now known as the Española Public Library, and was the first female elected to lead the Española  Chamber of Commerce. She is still active with many organizations.
