“Julius Caesar” To Be Performed In Española

In a special theater project, funded by a Los Alamos National Laboratory educational outreach grant, Duke City Repertory Theatre (DCRT) is proud to present two free performances of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar on Wednesday, Feb 10 in Española. The shows will run at 10am and 7pm at the College of Fine Arts Theatre at Northern New Mexico College. Each performance is 75 minutes in length and appropriate for grades 6th and older.

On the same day, DCRT will also partner with Moving Arts Española to bring a free acting workshop for all students (as young as kindergarten) and adults. The workshop will take place from 3:45 to 5pm at Moving Arts Española’s space at 68 NM-291.All participants will have the opportunity to learn acting work from professional actors and teachers.

The production of Julius Caesar is adapted and directed by John Hardy, and features the entire resident acting company of DCRT, including Amelia Ampuero, Ezra Colón, Katie Becker Colón, Frank Taylor Green, Josh Heard, and Lauren Myers.

Beware the Ides of March.” In one of Shakespeare’s most famous political tragedies, Caesar’s triumphant return to Rome prompts celebration in the streets and conspiracies in the shadows. As the city falls under a plague of supernatural tidings, unlikely alliances set up a chain of events that bring down the great Caesar and thrust the empire into a disastrous civil war. In the midst of the 2016 presidential campaigns and the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, DCRT’s production promises to spark examinations of power, governance, ambition, and patriotism.

DCRT is a professional theatre company based out of Albuquerque. While admission is free, seating is limited and patrons are encouraged to make reservations with Katie Becker Colón at katie@dukecityrep.com. For more information, please visit www.dukecityrep.com.
