It Takes a Valley, Community Outreach Organization – LAUNCHES new Valley Daily Post Column

Since May of 2011, It Takes a Valley (ITAV) has strengthened and facilitated a real sense of community connectedness in the Espanola Valley through community meetings and social media.  Led by Tania Sanchez, the group is dedicated to improving communication within the Valley by sharing useful and positive information.  With over 900 members on Facebook, the group has become a reputable source for finding out about local events, activities and volunteer opportunities.

ITAV’s goals are to bridge the communication gap between local resources and the community.  The group advocates for local organizations who are providing community services and encourages community volunteerism by helping recruit people to help serve their need.

“After many years in assessing the Espanola area, I believe there are amazing things happening in the Valley all the time, it’s just a matter of getting the message out there.  People want to be proud of their hometown and I think our group is helping.”

ITAV hosts regular community meetings where people from the area are invited to discuss ways to improve the quality of life in Espanola and to hear from local non-profits, School Board Members, City Councilors and other organizations that provide services to the area.  ITAV has recently partnered with the Valley Daily Post and KDCE to co-host the upcoming Espanola Municipal Candidate Forum on February 20, 2016, 5pm at the Nick Salazar Auditorium at Northern New Mexico College.  ITAV is dedicated to improving communication within the Valley.

We are proud to announce that ITAV will begin a NEW monthly column on the Valley Daily Post, entitled- “Making a Difference in the Valley.”  ITAV will recognize local groups and individuals who are doing exactly that—making a difference.  A committee has been formed to write these stories based on select criteria and the community is encouraged to nominate individuals or groups who are worthy of this distinction, please send your nominations to ITAVespanola@yahoo.com.

PLEASE JOIN our Facebook group, It Takes a Valley, and find out what’s going on in Espanola and the surrounding areas!

It Takes A Valley (ITAV) is a community outreach organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Espanola. The mission of ITAV is to strengthen our community by providing volunteer opportunities for citizens to participate and give back to Espanola and surrounding areas.

Borrowing from the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child”, It Takes A Valley is a grassroots organization created by residents of the beautiful Espanola Valley and surrounding areas committed to improving and uplifting the community through positive influences, programs, and education. ITAV is an organization “by the people for the people”. With a specific emphasis on a mutual respect and benefit for all residents of the area.

The ITAV group welcomes any and all suggestions regarding ways to empower and uplift our Valley. The purpose of this group is for community members to share information about events happening in Espanola (e.g. Spring clean up, art shows, Fiestas), post volunteer opportunities, recreation registrations (T-ball, EVCA, adult leagues), extra-curricular programs (Clubs, 4-H), summer camps (Moving Arts Espanola, Boys and girls Club), local fundraisers, scholarship applications/deadlines, and so on.  Please join and help us portray the true positive image of Espanola! We appreciate your involvement!
