House Fire Leaves Family Homeless

Staff Report

LYDEN – An Early morning fire on the last day of the year left a Lyden family homeless.

Between 2 and 3 A.M. Thursday morning the family of Karina and Omar Almeida was awoken by heavy smoke. The family including their two small children escaped but a fire soon engulfed the entire house destroying it and all their belongings.

The fire department spent several hours extinguishing the blaze and at this time the cause of the fire is unknown, but neighbors report it appears to have started in the garage, possibly near a wood stove.

The Almeida family have lived in the home for nine years and are temporarily staying with relatives.

A GoFundMe page has been opened HERE to help them get back on their feet.
